History
Feel confident, they've been around for while...
Both Central Freight Management Services Pty Ltd (CFMS) and Central Warehousing and Distribution Pty Ltd are wholly South Australian family owned and operated businesses. These days, with the global forces that surround us, mergers, acquisitions and the franchise boom, the CENTRAL LOGISTICS GROUP are proud to call themselves a family business and strive for that extra level of professionalism you get from prinicpal ownership.
While we are all busy embracing technology, and perhaps the efficiencies it brings while trying to maintain our stance in the business world, so many of us hunger for that personal touch. A friendly greeting, a human voice on the other end of the telephone and or even a smile from the person actually delivering your freight are all qualities very hard to find these days.
When the CENTRAL story began in the 1930's being courteous was expected, these days unfortunately it's a rarity...well, feel assured it still exists here at CENTRAL! Back then, just one man, Mr Sayer, with his own truck, carted general freight across Adelaide. He started business with just a handful of customers and would have known them, their family and what they did very well...the Central Logistics Group strive for the same values of respect and personal touch.
His son, Don, eventually took over the business and by the late 1970's owned a depot in Welland (suburb of Adelaide, South Australia) with a fleet of approximately 25 vehicles.
In 1981, Martin Huggett and his family's transport and warehousing business amalgamated with Sayers and became Adelaide's largest independent local parcel carrier and Don retired shortly thereafter. With sound business practices and the belief in providing customers with respect and personal service, Martin's business grew from strength to strength, expanding into SA country, NT and linehaul, including the development of a extensive home delivery service throughout these areas.
The business moved to Kidman Park and in 1995 was restructured into the now two specialist logistics companies; Central Warehousing & Distribution Pty Ltd and Central Freight Management Services Pty Ltd.
In 2001 the Central Group won by tender a large 5 year national contract encompassing a wide range of logistic services across the country. This was possible due to Centrals wide range of network partners and the ability to work with, and most importantly listen to the client to create a proposal that provided exactly what the client needed throughout the Australia.
The Central Logistics Group (the name used to encapsulate the two companies) has come a long way over the years. Today, the group accommodates an array of market sectors, from local micro-businesses to large international conglomerates. While the speed at which daily tasks are carried out has increased significantly since the 1930's, and the size of the business has grown, the "traditional" values and principles, from which Central was created, remain.
"To Central Logistics, it's not a quick grimace, or an insincere handshake when greeting someone. Saying 'I'll get back to you' does not mean next week, but now! And when we say 'we'll make sure something is done' we do it; no matter where you are in the world - we deliver on their promises and we really do care! (R Wescombe - CEO)
So, with all values and principles intact, a team of intelligent, hardworking and diligent staff, and a complementary and reliable network of sub-contractors, it is no wonder that when you're seeking premium logistics solutions in South Australia, you think Central Logistics Group!
